Church Unity Deception

Welcome to New Eyes to See

On the face of it, when Jesus made the following statement in Matthew 13:15-16 you’d be forgiven for being slightly confused:

“For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them. But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.”

However, if you read this scripture in context (and I’d encourage you to) it is clear that God is pleading with his chosen people, Israel, to open their eyes and ears to what he is telling them.

Over time, their tradition, man-made rules, and other cultures, had effectively blinded them to Bible truth and God’s voice.

They had hardened their hearts. So much so, that a determination not to listen to God or his prophets meant they completely failed to recognise their saviour, Jesus Christ.

A warning from history
But that’s Israel, right? We know the story and we know the majority of Jewish people continued in their blindness by crucifying Jesus and rejecting his apostles. With the benefit of hindsight, it’s easy to wonder how they got it so wrong.

Surely there is no way we could be guilty of falling into the same trap? Surely there is no way that tradition, deceit and the world, could again blind God’s chosen people to the truth of scripture?

Could fatal errors be literally staring us right in the face because we are viewing things through the eyes of man, not the eyes of the Bible?

I prayed for God to open my eyes. He did.
